We are pleased to welcome our new chaplain for the Deaf in Oxford Diocese, Rev Dr Hannah Lewis.
Hannah is herself deaf and signs well. She has written books, one called ‘Deaf Liberation Theology’, about Deaf culture in the church, deaf theology rooted in their own history and culture. She was awarded her MA at Cambridge and her PhD doctorate at Birmingham University.
Hannah’s licensing took place at Reading Deaf Centre on 13th February at 2pm, attended by Bishop Steven and members of ODCD, with two interpreters. Fifty invitations were sent out, almost all accepted. It was a joyful service and Hannah showed us her skill in BSL when she signed a hymn.
Refreshments were prepared by Caron Jones and Ray Lee, carefully wrapped in individual bags as a precaution. against covid.
